Its only weakness is no way to get through zoltan shields with the starting equipment but the high value of that equipment more than compensates for the lost scrap. Mantis b has the best starting defenses of any ship and the insanely good 4 man teleporter.

Every ship in ftl can become strong eventually with the right weapons and upgrades just as every civilization can become powerful in the civ games and every champion can dominate in league of legends with enough gold.
Halberd beam and leto is an awful awful starting arsenal good for sector 1 2 if youre lucky. Engi bs downside is the entire ship not merely the crew which is worse than any other ship in the game. Yes i know im years late but i only really got into ftl a year ago and i finally feel ive played it enough to create my own weapon tiers. Each ship starts with varying systems weapons power levels. S tier crystal b. Faster than light ftl is a realtime strategy game with a space setting in which your crew must survive a highly lethal trek to search out and destroy the rebel flagship.

The one exception in amazing tier would be the pike beam and thats because its fairly easy to get something to break through shields and the trade off is immense. The only ship ive piloted which more restarts let alone anywhere near as many is the dreadful engi b. This game is highly randomized for each playthrough and death is permanent for both crew and ship alike. B tier kestrel a federation a kestrel c engi a. Starting weapons can only be found aboard the ship that has them i include crystal weapons because getting to the crystal sector to buy them is an extremely rare and difficult. Engi a is a very polarizing ship but i think it should be higher stealth b does not belong with the trifecta of rock a engi b and slug b heres my rankings.
